What's New?

Skype has started a dialogue between politicians and their electors

Published: August 03, 2010

If you keep reading our articles, then you have managed to learn a lot about Skype. You know that Skype is busy with helping people communicate freely. The main aim of the company is to increase the ways of communication. But one of the places, that definitely lacks communication, is Washington D.C.

The Republicans are in council with Republicans. The Democrats hold counsel with people of the same habit. Industry is mostly busy with itself. All this is fed with a lot of money that goes through huge networks of research centers, public organisations and lobbyists companies. In this way, there's the only thought in the heads of society: "Washington! Are you listening to me?"

That's why the Skype company was pleasantly surprised, when last spring the Speaker Nancy Pelosi (@SpeakerPelosi) and the minorities leader John Bochner (@gopleader) started a discussion of how the Congress members could officially use Skype. Using Skype and other applications on the base of broadband connection opens interesting opportunities and new communication channels between the government and people they represent, and besides, it's absolutely free of charge. It's easy - people will work better, if in the politics everything will be clear and transparent.

For several Congress members the videoconferencing in Skype is the new way to communicate with electors and with each other. The main achievement of Skype is to pesuade all Congress members - both the Republicans, and the Democrats, and the Independent, and even the single member of the Socialist party Barnie Sanders - that Skype can be used by each of them to get the direct connection to their electorate. Video calls in the past had one significant disadvantage - where one person can have them, the other can not. Skype helps opening video conversations for many people at once. Today, with half a billion registered accounts in Skype and 23 million users, that are online simultaneously in the rush-hour, video calls are a widely used technology that helps people all over the world to stay in touch with each other. Although the usage of Skype is being discused in the Capitol Hill Club, Skype doesn't want to be the communication means for a separate political power. Skype has been created for everyone!

In this way, the Skype company wants every Congress member to realize the advantages of using this wonderful programme. The management of the company has started working with the committee of the Administration Representatives House, to show that the usage of Skype is not dangerous for other broadband networks that are used for the government communication. The attempt of the cooperation between the committee of the Representatives House and Skype is still going on now. At the moment the Congress members have a possibility to use Skype via mobile Internet (3G or 4G) or Wi-Fi networks to make their communication with their voters even more accessible.

The Skype company will go on working with both parties and the Administration Representatives House committee with the aim to persuade them that Skype is accessible for everyone and that it needs a special treating of the Congress.
