Review of the portable audio system Yamaha PSG-01S

The new portable audio system PSG-01S by Yamaha reminds of a little skyscraper with a helicopter point on the roof, but, in spite of its small size, it is a powerful multifunctional device to make Skype calls or to listen to music. Let's take a closer look at it.
Review of Skype for Sony PSP
Skype has a lot of software applications for different devices, and among them there is even an application for the pocket gaming console Sony PSP. The device is able to go into the Internet via Wi-Fi access points, thus one needs just to add headphones and a microphone to get an excellent device for IP-telephony. Just like the users of desktop computers, the owners of these game consoles also have the opportunity to save their money on conversations without giving up their mobility. Skype for PSP allows you to talk to other Skype users for free. In addition, you can significantly save on calls to ordinary landline and mobile phones.
However, only the owners of quite up-to-date consoles, starting with the 2000th Series (the Slim&Lite models), can enjoy the possibilities of Skype. Although there are rumors that hackers have already released a Skype installer for older models. Unfortunately, even the owners of the new consoles will not be able to communicate in chat, to make video-calls and use other functions of the system. Skype for Sony PSP can be used solely for adding contacts and establishing a voice connection with them.
Review of Skype for Windows Mobile
Skype has a lot of programme applications for different devices, including smartphones and communicators running under the operation system Windows Mobile. As well as the personal computer users, the mobile devices owners have the possibility to save their money on calls without giving up their mobility. Skype for Windows Mobile enables the charge-free voice communication with other Skype users and the text messages exchange in a chat with them. Also, you can save your money significantly, while calling usual landline and moble numbers and sending SMS messages.
It may seem that a mobile phone enables the worldwide calls anyway, but let's compare the call prices of your mobile operator and Skype. Very few mobile network operators can offer such prices, especially what concerns roaming. Skype gives you a possibility to save the money on the call costs essentially, due to the fact that the call goes not through the voice channel of a mobile provider but through the IP-telephony system. Skype uses Internet for its work, thus, you need a connection to Internet for the application to work. You can use the data transfer service of your mobile operator (3G, GPRS or EDGE) or use the Wi-Fi access points for that.
The detailed video-review of Nokia N900 with the integrated Skype
For sure, you have seen the Mark Douglas video about Skype for Nokia N900, that was published several weeks ago. Today we will look at N900 more attentively, especially considering how it receives Skype calls and text messages. Also you can see other applications of N900 and its mediaplayer in this video.
We would like to mention once more that the main advantage of N900 is the wonderful integration of Skype contacts into the contact-list of the phone. To take a closer look at N900, see the article of Jay Montano: «One week with the N900: 22 things I love and a few things (9) that I don't».
Nokia N900 can be obtained in the Skype shop for 499.99 pounds or 649 euro.
The review of the new IPEVO S0-10W Solo with Wi-Fi
The IPEVO company has released a desktop phone IPEVO S0-10W (the so-called "solo") with the possibility to make calls via Skype. This model has a Wi-Fi adapter, which means that you will need only the power cord of all the wires. The receiver is now black like the rest of the phone, unlike the contrasting white, that was in the previous model version. The price of the phone has fallen by 36% to $109,99 in comparison with the previous $169.99. So, now you can pay less and get more.
The first version of the phone had several advantages that have moved to the updated model as well. So, many will probably be glad about the followig positive aspects of S0-10W:
- The model looks very nice. IPEVO have been creating classic phones for Skype for years. Each line, every button and any cable looks elegant and is really easy to use. At its price the phone looks good.
- The sound is good and pure. Of course, the sound quality in the receiver and in the headset is not good enough to listen to music, but it is quite good for the telephone connection. Skype doesn't have to share the CPU and disk space with other software, so the sound quality is always high.
- The buttons on the phone are large and easy to use. It's very pleasant to dial the number by simply pressing a few digits on the panel or scrolling down the names on the screen and selecting the one you need.
- The phone does not require a personal computer, which means that it can be put into any room of your apartment.

Review of Skype for iPhone
Skype has got numerous software clients for different devices and iPhone is not an exception. The main functional does not differ from client to client. Thus, having installed Skype on your iPhone you just like other computer users will be able to make free calls to other Skype users, to keep in touch and chat with them as well as to make cheap calls to landline and mobile phones around the world.
Of course, if you have a mobile phone you can call anyone you like. But here the cost of calls is taken into consideration, in particular, the cost of calls made in roaming. Skype gives you an opportunity to save money by calling not with the help of your mobile operator but with the help of the Skype own IP telephony system. In order to launch Skype you do have to connect to the Internet. You can get connected either by means of your mobile operator service of data transfer (3G, EDGE) or using hot spots of Wi-Fi networks.
In the first case, having connected to the network through a channel of operator you are not able to make any voice calls. You can only see which of your contacts are online and communicate with them in the Skype chat. While chatting with your friends you should keep in mind the tariffs for the Internet traffic your operator has. They can “bite” when you are in roaming.
Review of Skype 2.8 for Mac OS X

This article is dedicated to the updated Skype version 2.8 for Mac OS X operating systems. The current release has inherited the standard free useful features from previous versions such as free voice, text and video conferences with Skype users from any country worldwide. Moreover, low-cost calls to landline and mobile phones all over the world and cheap SMS messages have remained as well.
Apple operating system traditionally provides a more colorful interface that has fully been retained in the new Skype version. It is the design that mainly determines this version for Mac OS X. All shortcuts, buttons and text entry boxes are of characteristic contour, size and color. Those who like Apple system will be really pleased with Skype fitting harmonically into the working area of the screen.
So, what innovations did the latest version of the application bring us? There are approximately ten of them. They are not easily visible but still are quite significant. The optimized programme code of compression and transmission of sound and image happens to be the first and the most important innovation. Now their quality is significantly better. Using a very small internet channel, you are able to transmit video and sound of almost pristine purity.
Review of the Skype Voicemail service
Skype Voicemail is a voicemail service, which acts as an answering machine when you can not answer the call. This service allows you not to worry about missing an important call. Because when you can not answer a call Skype will automatically redirect the call to the answering machine. The caller can leave a message that you will listen to as soon as you come to Skype.
This is a paid service. But the charge is very small. Price varies by the country of your residence. For example, in Europe the three-month subscription will cost 5 €, and the annual - 15 €. But there is another option of getting a voice mailbox. When you subscribe to a service plan you will get a voice box as a bonus at no extra charge. You can activate a subscription, for example, on this page.
In the voice mail settings, which are available through the menu "Tools - Options - Calls - Voicemail" in the Skype window, you can configure the interval in seconds after which the system should redirect the call to your voice mail. You can tell the system to redirect a call to a voice mailbox, if you are already talking to someone at the moment or if you yourself refuse to accept the call. To do this you just have to put the appropriate checkboxes. It is available here as well to record your unique greeting which will be heard by the caller.
