The Skype company has presented the first version of its programme for Symbian. After several months of testing and communication with users the new release has become compatible with many devices which work with the Symbian operating system, and there were several errors corrected that were present in the beta-version. Tthe general functionality has improved as well.

The new Skype for Symbian can:

— make and receive voice calls over Skype
— send and receive instant text messages
— send multimedia files between Skype accounts

Video calls for Skype users under Symbian are not yet possible.

Skype for Symbian can use both 3G-connection and Wi-Fi networks as well as automatically switch between them.

Other Skype functions, like redirection of calls, voice mail or SkypeOut, are also supported int he new application.

Skype for Symbian is possible for  Nokia N97, N97 Mini, 5800XM, N86, N96, E7 and 5520. In Samsung phones, that also work with Symbian, the new Skype is still not supported.
